Meet Miss Zien Edgar

Miriam ZienMiriam Zien is the director of the Sinfonia Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra, and teaches the Guitar Technique I class here at  Kennedy High School. She holds a B.A. in Music Education, K-12 (Instrumental); and has been a private violin, viola, and piano instructor for 8 years. She received her degree from Augsburg College in Minneapolis where she studied violin under Mary Budd Horozaniecki. During her time at Augsburg College she served as both principle second and concertmaster of the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra, and was a recipient of the Carol Halverson Hearn Violin Scholarship. While at Augsburg College, Miss Zien spent time studying abroad in both Mexico and Namibia, Africa.  During her time in Namibia, she consequently had opportunities to teach music at various schools. Miss Zien currently performs in various ensembles around town including a string trio. Recently, she has also spent time recording professionally for various projects.

Previous to her time here at Kennedy, Miss Zien was the K-2 general music teacher at Prairie Seeds Academy for the 2007-2008 school year. She was also a long term K-2 general music sub for the second half of the 2006-2007 school year in Minneapolis for the Ramsey International Fine Arts Center. She has participated as an intern in the Upper Midwest String and Chamber Music Conference during the summer of 2002, and at the MacPhail String Academy Music Camps from 2002-2004.

Aside from her music endeavors, Miss Zien enjoys cooking, knitting, and traveling in her free time. Her favorite book is “The Giving Tree”, she loves to eat pistachio ice cream, and purple is her favorite color.
