Students may participate in the following music ensembles that meet outside of the regular school day:
Jazz Bands
Jazz Ensemble
Membership in the Jazz Ensemble is by audition held in early September and is limited to students enrolled in one of the major music ensembles (choir, orchestra, band). The Jazz Ensemble studies standards of the Jazz repertoire and performs at various concerts and festivals throughout the year. Jazz Ensemble rehearsals are generally held two days per week, September through April. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Mr. Engebretson.
Jazz Lab Band
Membership in Jazz Lab Band is open to any student (on any instrument) interested in learning about jazz music and how to improvise. Rehearsals are usually one morning per week. Mr. Engebretson directs the Jazz Lab Band. Students may sign up in the fall to participate in this group.
Kennedy Percussion Group – KPG
The Kennedy Percussion Group or KPG, is open to any student. An emphasis is put on percussion from different cultures as well as traditional concert percussion literature. This group is directed by Mr. Kevin Fuhrman and meets November through April, 2-3 times per week. The Kennedy Percussion Group performs at various festivals, concerts and workshops.
Pit Orchestra
The Pit Orchestra plays for Kennedy’s annual fall musical. The Pit Orchestra is open to all students (based on the instruments needed). Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year.
